About

Ari, 21, french fry-fiend. I'm a student in NYC. This is a space to sound off about style, society, feminism, and trying to create a life worth writing about. Mostly I just want to talk about junk food and clothes. This is something I'm doing for fun, for myself, to put some thoughts down on paper, just kind of some dumb old thing to do, so please take it all with a large grain of salt.

I'm an International Studies major with a minor in Business Admin. My academic area of concentration is political economy, but my personal areas of interest are the history and anthropology of clothing, and taking pop culture way too seriously. My interests include cats, gourmet junk food and gin cocktails. I like really, really, really long walks, seafood, and telling people I will totally be the drummer in their band even though I haven't played in like seven years.

What does "Je Vis Je Meurs" mean? Why is it the blog title?

It means "I live, I die" in French. It's the title and opening line of a poem by the medieval poet Louis Labé.

Have you ever had a phrase stuck in your head? Because I had that line stuck in my head for like, two months. I don't know. It happens to me sometimes. I would recite it constantly to myself, playing with the sounds and the syllables. I used it to fill all the open spaces in my thoughts. I started muttering it under my breath (uh, sorry for being super weird). Choosing a blog title was my biggest hurdle, and one day there it was.

It's pronounced approximately "jeh vee jeh mare." French throaty 'r', the s is silent.

"A blog, really?"

Yeah, really.
